Distilled in 1963 at Glenmorangie distillery, this hard-to-find 23-year-old single malt was matured in oak casks for 22 years and finished for another year in oloroso sherry casks, before being bottled in 1987. The Glenmorangie distillery was established in 1843, on the Dornoch Firth by brothers William and John Matheson. The site originally held a farm distillery under the name Morangie. There is evidence that distillation was carried out at this site during the early 18th century. Production began in November of 1849. During the latter part of the 19th century Glenmorangie began overseas exportation and destinations included Europe and the United States.
A delightfully complex spicy and perfumed nose. There is a much greater presence of peat in the taste than the nose suggests. The smokiness quickly hits the palate and then tapers off. Long and dry with gentle warm spice.
